Wine & Dine Half Marathon…

Posted by Ashley Rae on August 9, 2010

I know it has been over a YEAR since I’ve touched this blog! I’m really hoping that life is going to cool down soon. Since last year, I spent 10 months working in the Norway Pavilion’s Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and since April I have been at the UK’s Rose and Crown. I’ve loved every second of it, but balancing it between a full time schedule at UCF leaves me exhausted at the end of the day.

But… what I really want to talk about is my current Wait List position for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon on October 2, 2010. I’m hoping with the new 1000 positions they opened up for the race that I will quickly get a response (or at least within the next two weeks). Either way, I’m starting my training today! This might be a lame eight weeks of blogging, but I need somewhere to inspire me to stay on track. The desired effect will hopefully lead me to return to the Disney blogging community… Hope you join me on my half marathon adventure!

Hot Air Balloons

The SeasonsEarthWinterSpringSummer

The Land Pavilion in Epcot’s Future World has undergone many changes during its existence.  The balloons in the center of the building went through multiple changes including both mobility and theming.  The final result is what you see here.  Each balloon represents a season.  This theming continues downstairs in the pavilion’s food court titled The Sunshine Seasons.

Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow

Another throwback to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority while it is being refurbished.  This was my favorite part of the attraction because of my love for minatures.

Having a Magical Time

Posted by Ashley Rae on June 8, 2009

UK ClockThis clock is located within the United Kingdom pavilion in Epcot.  Although not obviously designed after a specific piece of architecture from the UK, the location over looks some fun performances.

Between The Tea Caddy and the clock, Guests can get the chance to enjoy an immersive experience with The World Showcase Players and their rendition of King Arthur and the Holy Grail.  In the garden toward the back of the streets, Guests can watch a Beatles tribute band called The British Invasion.

Celebrate Springtime!

Posted by Ashley Rae on April 2, 2009

This year’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival kicked off on March 18 and is set to run till May 31, 2009.  This year’s theme, Celebrate Springtime! directly correlates with Walt Disney World’s year-long “What Will You Celebrate?” campaign.

Disneynature is presenting the festival along with other sponsors such as AARP, Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure, Evos & Weevos play systems, Guerlain, Inc., Twinings, DIY Network, FNGLA, Floating Island Southeast, and Rain Bird Corporation.  These companies have come together to offer great activities, both classic and new, to this year’s event.

New topiaries this year include Cinderellabration, the Pixie Hollow Fairy Garden,  and Be Our Guest.  Another feature is the Sand Sculpture Art presented by Disneynature on the Test Track Walkway.

The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival includes bands as a part of its Flower Power Concert Series.  These performances are in The America Garden Theatre, a part of the American Adventure pavilion in the World Showcase.

This year’s performers include…

  • Davy Jones (March 20-22)
  • Paul Revere & The Raiders (March 27-29)
  • The Turtles Featuring Flo & Eddie (April 3-5)
  • Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone (April 10-12)
  • The Ventures (April 17-19)
  • NEW- Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes (April 24-26)
  • Chubby Checker & The Wildcats (May 1-3)
  • Ricky Nelson Remembered Featuring The Nelsons (May 8-10)
  • Jose Feliciano (May 22-24)
  • The 5th Dimension (May 22-24)
  • Tony Orlando (May 29-31)

And for the gardening fanatic, there will be opportunities to meet some Great American Gardeners throughout the festival.

  • Jon Caroftis (March 20-22)
  • Shirley Bovshow (March 27-29)
  • Susan Belsinger (April 3-5)
  • Felder Rushing (April 10-12)
  • Joe Lamp’l aka joe gardener (April 17-19)
  • Jeff Lowenfels (April 24-26)
  • Joe Washington (May 1-3)
  • Tom MacCubbin (May 8-10)
  • Raymond Western (May 8-10)
  • Melinda Myers (May 15-17)
  • Robert Bowden (May 22-24)
  • Rita Randolph (May 29-31)

Although the signature events might be worth coming out for the weekend, experiencing the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival favorites such as Minnie’s Magnificient Butterfly Garden and the topiaries that showcase the talent within Walt Disney World’s horicultural department is well worth a casual stroll during the week when crowds will be thin.
