You Sunk My Battleship!

According to BoardGameGeek.com, Milton Bradley’s Battleship has been in production since 1967.  The game is meant for two players with concealed sides of the board.  Each side includes pegs, both red and white, and battleships.  The ships range from two to five squares and our secretly placed on each opponents side.  Each turn of the game allows for the opposing player to guess the location of a hidden ship.  They are acknowledged with a “Hit” or “Miss”.  If a player sinks all of the opponent’s battleships, they are the victor.

This friendly game hangs above the shop located in Pixar Place across from Toy Story Midway Mania.

History of the Mickey Mouse Watch: Abridged

In this image taken off of Hollywood Boulevard is a classic Mickey Mouse watch used as the illuminated street sign to entice Guests inside the shop.

In 1933, the first Mickey Mouse watch was made by Ingersoll Waterbury Clock Co.  During this time, the company’s financial condition was very poor, but they released their Mickey Mouse watch for $3.25 and later for $2.95.  The popularity of the watches brought Ingersoll Waterbury Clock Co. out of their debts.  Production continued through to the 1960s when the company became US Time and later Timex.

Command Post

The Command Post has been assembled thanks to these blueprints for the project. It’s unclear who might have planned the design. Maybe Andy, Woody, or the Army Men themselves.  But this is an awesome little find at the Cast Members Only door.  At first, it seems like a small doodle, but really is a sketched design of Pixar Place.  The placement of Mr. Spell and the Scrabble Board were just a part of the bigger picture.  Thanks to Don McCann for pointing this one out.

More Fun Than A…

It seems that Andy’s toys are overflowing into Pixar Place.  With some noticeable favorites, such as Battleship, Scrabble, and Dominoes, sprawled around the area, nothing is more apparent than the decorative Barrel of Monkeys.

According to Retroland, Barrel of Monkeys was created in 1966.  Each barrel is filled with 12 monkeys.  The point of the game is to link the 12 monkeys without breaking the chain.  Eventually Milton Bradley took over the monkey business and continued production of the childhood game.

Addendum: It Might Be Too Strong

In a previous post, I mentioned the appearance of Brawny and Kodak at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Lights, Motors, Action is located at the end of the Streets of America all the way in the back of the park, bathrooms are located in numerous places, while the billboards are off of Sunset and Hollywood Blvd.  I just want to say that the stretch of advertisement for Brawny is awesome.  I wonder if you might ever see a Custodial Cast Member carrying around a role.

One Man’s Trash…

Here is a small fact I heard last night. The new restaurant in Downtown Disney, Paradiso 37, has columns that stand toward the middle of the restaurant. Supposedly the bolts used to hold up the pillars are leftovers from Aerosmith’s Rockin’ Rollercoaster.

Addendum: Mementos Left Behind

As you walk through the lobby of The Hollywood Tower Hotel toward the library, take a second to notice the keys and mail behind the counter.  In one of these slots is a man’s photo.  Who that man might be…no one knows.
